Check out our list of welcome events being hosted by CALS to kickoff the fall 2025 semester! Orientation day is just for incoming students but the rest of our welcome events are open to incoming and current students!
CALS New Student Welcome and Orientation – Tuesday, September 2
The Fall Welcome and Orientation for incoming first-year and transfer students in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences will be held on Tuesday, September 2 at 9:00 a.m. Students will be split into two groups based on their last name for the first portion and then everyone will move to the Allen Centennial Gardens. At the event, students will build community with peers, meet their advisors, and connect with faculty and staff. Refreshments will be provided.
Students with last names starting with letters A-L should meet in room 125 Agricultural Hall (1450 Linden Drive) at 9:00 a.m.
Students with last names starting M-Z should meet in room 1125 DeLuca Biochemistry Building (420 Henry Mall) at 9:00 a.m.
Before leaving the Garden, all new first-year and transfer students will pick up their CALS t-shirts, which they will put on to wear to lunch at Gordon Commons beginning at 11:30 a.m. Following lunch, all new first-year and transfer students will go to the Kohl Center for the Chancellor’s convocation. Doors open at the Kohl Center at 12:30 p.m., the UW Marching Band performs at 1:00 p.m., and the Convocation Ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m.
CALS welcome events open to all CALS undergraduate students
CALS undergraduate students are invited to the CALS Academic Affairs open house and student appreciation event located in 116 Agricultural Hall from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Come meet the staff in your academic dean’s office and collect resources from CALS Advising Services, Study Abroad, Career Services, Honors, and take a first day of school photo!
Open to all CALS undergraduate students.
Start your journey with CALS Career Services! Stop by 25 Agricultural Hall between 10:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. to explore careers, activate your Handshake account, get a LinkedIn headshot, start your resume, and more!

CALS students are welcome to attend the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Student Organization Fair. This event will take place from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the CALS Student Center, 25 Agricultural Hall. Come talk with representatives from over 30 clubs serving all students interested in Biological Sciences, Food & Agriculture, Health & Nutrition, Business, Communication, & Society, and Sustainability, Natural Resources, & The Environment.
Open to all CALS undergraduate and graduate students.
The CALS Transfer Student Dinner has been postponed due to illness. Please check your information about the new date.
All CALS transfer students will receive an email invitation with more details.
Interested in studying abroad during your time at UW-Madison? Join us to learn about study abroad opportunities for CALS students with the CALS Study Abroad Team from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in room 14 Agricultural Hall.
Open to all CALS undergraduate students.
There will be a networking event sponsored by CALS and the College for Rural Wisconsin program on September 17 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the CALS Student Center, 25 Agricultural Hall. If you identify as a student from a rural or small town (not just in Wisconsin), you are especially encouraged to attend to enjoy food and fellowship, as well as hear from a panel of faculty, staff, and students about their experiences at UW.

Interested in getting involved in research? What about the CALS Honors Program? Join us from 4:00-4:15 p.m. to learn about the CALS Honors Program. From 4:00-5:15 p.m. we’ll be co-hosting a Find a Research Mentor Workshop with WISCIENCE! This workshop will help students learn strategies to seek out research opportunities on campus.
Students are welcome to attend just one or both of these events. Both will be in the CALS Student Center in 25J Agricultural Hall.

All CALS students are invited to attend the Wisconsin Agricultural and Life Sciences Alumni Association (WALSAA) annual fire-up event which raises funds for CALS student scholarships. See www.walsaa.org for more information.
Interested in learning more about CALS Scholarships or other resources and support from the Office of Student Financial Aid? Drop by the CALS Student Center, 25 Agricultural Hall from 11:30-1:00 to meet CALS Scholarship Manager, Alan Avila and walk away with information and some swag!
