Admitted Students

Congratulations on being admitted to UW-Madison and welcome to the CALS community! Any admitted student can decide to join CALS and we hope some of the resources outlined below will help you learn more about CALS as you decide if UW-Madison is the right school for you!

Talk with a CALS student!

CALS Ambassadors are current CALS students who are eager to share about the CALS student experience.

Ambassadors would love to answer questions about the transition to college, coursework in their major, getting involved in student organizations, and more on campus!

Explore CALS-Sponsored Residential Learning Communities

CALS is home to three residential learning communities that may be of particular interest to incoming CALS students: BioHouse, GreenHouse, and Women in Science & Engineering.

Learning communities are residential spaces that bring together students interested in a specific focus area and help you quickly build community with students interested in similar topics!

Apply to CALS QuickStart

QuickStart is a program specifically for incoming CALS first-year students the summer before they start at UW-Madison. QuickStart students get an early start on coursework, build connections with CALS students, faculty, and staff early, and participants can move-in early to campus housing if they’d like. Applications are accepted until early May and scholarships are available.

Advisor Liv Sandberg helps a student enroll at the orientation and registration program.

Register for Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) with CALS

In mid-April, you will receive an invitation to register for Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR), the official UW-Madison orientation program. SOAR is where you will enroll in courses and learn about all the resources available to you at UW-Madison.

Any student interested in a CALS program should choose to advise with CALS during registration.
