About CALS Wellness Featured Pets

The CALS Wellness Committee was launched in 2015 with the vision of a culture and environment of wellness in CALS. Our mission is to support opportunities that promote the health and well-being of the CALS community. In an effort to promote community and wellbeing throughout the CALS community, the CALS Wellness Committee is happy to highlight the special bonds between pets and owners by featuring pets of employees across our college.

A 2022 survey by the American Pet Products Association found that 70 percent of American households own a pet, a jump from 56 percent in 1988.  More than 23 million people added a pet to their home during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the ASPCA.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, studies have shown that the bond between people and their pets is linked to health benefits.
