    Food Systems Certificate

    The food systems certificate is open to all UW–Madison students. This certificate explores the aspects of production, distribution, and consumption of food.

    In this 16-credit certificate program you will:

    • Understand and evaluate the key elements of a food system
    • Learn how political, social, economic, and environmental forces interact to shape food systems
    • Evaluate how individuals from different backgrounds interact with both local and global food systems as humans, consumers, producers, and citizens
    • Experience real-world work in food systems through a culmination activity, a unique opportunity to get involved outside the classroom
    • Be exposed to the full range of food systems and become a more informed consumer and citizen
    • Understand the social, economic, and environmental outcomes of different patterns of:
      • Food production
      • Processing
      • Distribution
      • Consumption
