CALS Advising Services is a unit in the Office of Academic Affairs that includes the CALS college advisor who helps students who are interested in learning more about CALS majors, know CALS is the right college but are still choosing a major, or who are exploring new major options in areas related to CALS. The CALS college advisor helps students learn more about possible areas of study and creates schedules with courses that allow students to explore these areas while staying on track for degree requirements and a timely graduation.
Students can begin working with the CALS college advisor as soon as they attend SOAR, where they can declare themselves as undecided, or at any point during their college career when they are feeling uncertain about their major. The CALS college advisor may also support students going through a challenging time or who just are not sure where to go next for support.
Are you a current UW–Madison student and you know what CALS major you want to declare? Schedule a meeting with the advisor for that major by looking for the advisor on the major’s Guide page and scheduling a meeting using the advisor’s Starfish calendar or by e-mailing them directly.
Are you a current UW–Madison student who is interested in CALS but unsure which major to choose? Or you are interested in multiple majors in CALS? Schedule an appointment with our CALS college advisor, Tera Holtz, using the Starfish app.
Are you a prospective student who is considering applying to CALS and would like to learn more about our majors and advisors? Visit our page for prospective students to learn about our information sessions.
Are you a prospective transfer student who is interested in a CALS major? CALS offers pre-transfer advising for any student interested in transferring to a CALS major at UW-Madison. You can schedule a Pre-Transfer Advising Meeting with LauraLee Norton to discuss specific questions you may have about transferring to CALS, what courses to take to stay on track for your major, and how to make the transition smoother. Not sure of your major? LauraLee specializes in transfer and undecided students. She can help you evaluate your options and select courses to support your goals. If you have additional questions, please email LauraLee at lberrey@wisc.edu.
Do you have other questions about CALS advising or advising in general? Check out this page for more information.
