Advising

Advising is an integral part of any student’s educational journey here in CALS. Starting at Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR), we encourage all students to connect with academic advisors to facilitate major and career exploration. Once a student has chosen a major, advisors can help them plan an internship, study abroad experience or research experience on campus, all while completing degree requirements and working towards graduation.

CALS academic advisors have a wealth of knowledge about courses on campus, as well as policies and procedures. They are caring staff who want students to succeed. Any student experiencing academic difficulty or personal struggles is encouraged to talk to their advisor about how their individual situation may affect their academic performance.

Accessing Advising
There are many ways to access advising depending on your needs. Are you undecided, exploring or just unsure? Meet with a Transitional Advising & Outreach Services advisor to ask questions about any of the 24 majors CALS offers. Schedule an appointment with an advisor using the links below:

CALS Transfer Workshops

Decided on a CALS major? Visit with the advisor in the major you intend to declare and then register to attend a group CALS transfer workshop.

Transfer workshops are held during the academic year starting, mid-September through the end of November and again early-February thru mid-April. They are held on Mondays and Tuesdays starting at 3:30pm.

Fall 2017 Workshops will be posted later this summer.

Departmental Advising
Are you confident about your major? Every CALS department has faculty and staff who can give advice about courses, help you plan for graduation, explore opportunities outside of the classroom and answer any questions you may have along the way. To find an advisor for a particular major offered in CALS, use the Guide to find that major and contact information for advisors.
